We hold or club nights on Friday nights from late September early October through till the end of April every year. (We generally follow daylight savings schedule. BMX racing is a seasonal sport and does not happen during the winter.
Unfortunately, we do not run club nights during the winter months. If possible we will run gates during the weekends, weather dependent.
Our club is heavily focused on creating a fun family environment which everyone can enjoy both racing and spectating. It is shown in our membership where we have riders under the age of 5, right through to grandparents over 60 all competing both at a club and National level. Our Mum's and Dad's category is one of the biggest groups on a Friday night!
Strider Racing (generally riders under age 5 with no pedals on their bikes)
Check in 5.00pm - 5.30pm. First race 6pm, Second race 6.15pm, Final race 6.30pm
Strider races are $2 per night. We group all the striders together and they race half the track, generally a parent will run along side them.
Rider registration from 5.30pm-6.15pm at the Points Hut, and racing normally begins within 30mins of the close of registrations.
Racing takes around 60-90 mins with all riders getting to race 4 races each night, Club night fees are $5 for registered Waitakere & BMXNZ members. Please produce proof of membership to your club to receive the lower fee. This would normally be your BMXNZ licence card. Casual members $10,You are allowed to ride as a casual rider for up to 3 weeks, after which you must become a full member to continue racing. This is a condition of our affiliation to BMXNZ.
For new riders to the sport we offer the first 3 club nights free to enable the rider to get used to riding the track with other people and see if they wish to continue. They will always be racing against other riders of a similar age and skill level with a maximum of 8 riders on a race.
Once riders have completed their first 3 nights for free we ask that you join the club to continue racing and look at getting your own gear so we can let other new riders have the same opportunity to hire any equipment needed.
We have a limited amount of hire gear available on club nights so you don't have to go out and spend money before committing to the sport.
Bikes are available to hire for $5 per night, with sizes ranging from Mini through to Cruisers. Bikes are available on a first come basis. Hire shed opens at 5.30pm
Safety gear is available for $5 per night. This includes a full face helmet and set of gloves.
Knee and Elbow pads are available to hire for $5 per night.
During our Friday club nights we operate a canteen which has a range of food and drinks available. Items for sale include water, soft drinks, hot chips, burgers, hot dogs, lollies, ice-blocks.
With a number of Coeliac volunteers, we even cater for the Gluten Free out there with a specific deep fryer to ensure our chips are good to go!
