Club Training Sessions

Club Training runs during the BMX season over the summer months (October - April).

New Rider, Sprocket , Club Rider Training


This training is suitable for All riders and those competing in the 'Sprocket' class, or for riders who are new to the sport of BMX. Skills learned in these sessions focus on the basics such as bike control, balance, coordination and riding fundamentals. No clip-in pedals please, the skills being taught in these sessions are best learned without clips.


Location: Waitakere BMX Track
When:  Thursdays 5:00pm to 6:15pm

Check in: From 4.30pm

Senior Coaches: Phil Armstead, Gareth Lauchlan, Lisa Andersen

Junior Coaches: Matt Haigh, Cody Clarke, Nate Armstead, Ben Lauchlan

Cost: Members - $5 per rider per session

Non Members - $10 per rider per session

These sessions are suitable for;

  • Riders of any age who have just started BMX and would like to learn the basic skills.

  • Young riders who have only recently learned to ride a bike.

  • Riders in the Sprocket age group classes.

  • Club riders wanting more practice and guidance.

  • Riders are split into ability level groups for training.


Private & Small Group Training

Description: Suitable for Challenge Riders and those new to challenge.

Toni has 20 years of racing experience and has competed on the national and international circuit.


Adults Only Training

Description: Suitable for Riders who are new to sport, or Riders would like some assistance to improve their technique.

Location: Waitakere BMX Track

When: Fortnightly Thursdays - Starting 22 Oct 2020

Time: 6.30pm
Coach: Phil Armstead

Cost: Members - $5 per rider per session

Non Members - $10 per rider per session

These sessions are suitable for;

  • Riders looking to improve speed/skill/strength (anything above beginner level)


If you are looking to improve your riding skills, don't forget that the track is open to the public at any time that it is not being used by the club. We recommend that you spend time at the track working on skills as often as you can. BMX is a skill-based sport, and nothing beats time on your bike for developing skills!

Competitive Fitness Training 

Fitness Training for WTK Competitive Riders who are racing during the upcoming season in the BMXNZ National Series.


Description: For riders racing outside of the club and who are prepared to train hard. (Not suitable for children under the age of 10 years)

Location: Waitakere BMX Track

When: Wednesdays

Time: 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Coach: Phil Armstead, Gareth Lauchlan, Kim Fai

Cost: $5 per rider for season

Please Note: Training sessions are available to challenge members only.


In order to provide an environment for our riders to get the most out of these sessions, the track will be closed to all other riders. At all other times, the track is open to the public unless we have to close it for weather or working bees in which case it will be posted on Facebook.
